Collection Camp, Death March, Slave Labour (Testimony of Mrs Ferenc Lengyel)

The testimony of Mrs Ferenc Lengyel (b. 1911) given in Budapest on 29 August 1945. She was taken to the Óbuda brickworks by the Arrow Cross authorities in November 1944. From there she was driven on foot to the western border, where she was handed over to the Germans. Mrs Lengyel was then taken to Kaufering-Landsberg and from there to Buchberg. Most of the detainees here were Russian and Ukrainian prisoners of war. When, in the final days of the war, they were to be moved on from here, the prisoners, weakened to the point of exhaustion, refused the order en masse. The SS guards fled and the camp was liberated by Soviet troops. (Source: Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives, DEGOB Protocols)
